NY Times Chimes in on Fasted Cardio

A recent New York Times piece cited my recent paper on fasted cardio, summarizing my findings in an article titled Really? The Claim: Exercising on an Empty Stomach Burns More Fat. Good to see that mainstream publications are taking the lead in debunking some of the myths that pervade the fitness industry.

Stay Fit!

  2. Thanks Jon. It is nice when mainstream publications seek to debunk some of the long held fitness myths. Unfortunately it doesn’t happen enough…

  5. Question!

How long after breakfast should you wait before doing morning cardio in order to prevent “fasted cardio”?

I’m assuming jumping on the treadmill immediately after breakfast wouldn’t give the body enough time to utilize that food for energy? Obviously it depends a bit on metabolism rate and the glycemic index of the food, but just a general range would be helpful. Thanks!

  6. Hey Oscar:

Generally not a good idea to perform exercise immediately after a solid meal as this impairs digestion. If it’s a liquid meal, then little digestion is required and you can perform activity much more quickly afterward.

  8. A very well done study, also referenced in NYT contradicts this. I have had astonishing success getting people to lose weight using FC.
