CUNY TV Interview
Here is an interview I did for CUNY TV about my recent SCJ article on the upright row as well as other exercise-related topics. Hopefully the message resonates!

That was very well done, Brad!
I love how you squeezed in the evidence based approach in there too!

Nice video Brad.
With respect to improper exercises: I heard the following exercise described as dangerous. Although I don’t view the source as an authority, I feel the comment warrants investigation. Would a shoulder shrug (shoulder girdle elevation), performed with the cable rope attachment; set in the lowest height position; soft knees; hands held behind the back and below the waist; in a neutral grip; be considered a contraindicated exercise?
I realize proper form would be a major determinant, but accepting proper form as a given, is there anything inherently wrong with this activity? The goal is to develop the trapezius.
Thanks.

Thanks Anoop. EBP is essential for any fitness professional. Can’t emphasis it enough.

Hey Charles:
I don’t see why the shrug would be contraindicated. Would need more explanation as to a reason to better evaluate the claim. But again, in almost every case it comes down to the individual’s needs, abilities, and limitations.
